There are no shrubs in proposals, to give structure and year round interest.
There are 2 more Chaenomeles there at present not mentioned in proposals, both in lower SE bed - one is where D2 is written on proposals, next to East steps, and other next to Plane tree opposite Rochelle school. Can they be retained? There is also another (2?) Weigela next to South steps. They are popular.
There is no mention of bulbs - We will be digging some up to save (and some with the children maybe) and hopefully some will survive in the soil. Is there a policy regarding them?
Many of the proposed plants are interesting and attractive and liked by bees and butterflies.

The idea for box hedging was abandaned, and I cant remember there being suggestions for a hedgerow. Maybe you mean other shrubs? There are no shrubs in the plans.

Hi everyone,

We have asked for an additional trial hole to be done to provide an extra indication of what we will need to add to the topsoil to improve its horticultural quality (i.e. nutrients, organic matter and the like). This means they will be digging 3 (three) holes in total.

My Latin is pretty rusty so I can't make out some of the plant names. Will local people still be able to grow veg in the parts of the garden? Also, was there any response from the council on earlier feedback hedgerow vs. box?

The trees look naked. I'm looking forward to next year when they start to grow back a bit.

Formal vs Informal? - I'd probably go with informal. The space just feels more suited to it. I'm no expert in choosing plants but I agree with Jean's earlier comment re: Holly and Wild Roses. The plants in the legend above look like they've been taken from the Tower Hamlets Parks Identikit. It would be good to get some distinctive and unique plants. Anything with scent get's my vote.

Lastly, this plan mentions residents planting - which is great. I hope the plan also considers the school's wild flower gardening projects.

In my opinion there doesn't appear to be anything controversial in this application. Basically it looks like "add benches, make good to railings, make good to bandstand and add a light".

However, I haven't seen (or noticed) the benches that they've proposed. It looks like they are supported by the fence - is that strong enough? If three people stood on it, I'd imagine it would break. I'd have though benches mounted to the ground (like the current benches) would have been a more sturdy solution.

Suggestions for planting: Instead of box hedging what about creating a hedgerow with mixed shrubs and climbers to sustain wildlife i.e. pyracantha, holly, etc (berries for food and spikes for protection of wildlife) intertwined with honeysuckle, wild roses + other climbers for scent and colour.

Very exciting to start to see these ideas develop. I like the concealed lighting idea. What will happen to the existing legacy benches that have been donated to the circus?

Andy, Great to hear about the keys. I can't believe that you've done this twice in the last fortnight. Nice detective work!
