A New Garden, hand made

October 13, 2008
by

Keep a look out on Calvert Avenue in the next few days for a new garden. Invented, created and stitched by sixteen women at St Hilda’s, it is a long and beautiful wall hanging that celebrates the life of the Boundary and Arnold Circus. There are birds in it, trees, dragonflies and of course the historic bandstand. It’s taken the group a whole year to do it, and you can see it very soon in the window of Soboye Soong, 13 Calvert Avenue. Not that it’s for sale. In all its freshness and beauty, it is really priceless! (Thanks to the funders – Neighbourhood Renewal Fund, Clothmakers and Bishopsgate Foundations, and to Mary Spyrou who led the project.)
