…alive with the Sound of Music
Walk along Calvert Avenue on Sunday 13th and you’ll be wonderfully assailed on all sides by music. A marching band will lead you down from St Leonard’s (where there’s been a free performance of The Calling) to Arnold Circus. On the way, keep your eyes open for all sort of surprises – a car with its own DJ, a musical treasure hunt around the Boundary Estate, a chance to find out how you can make music out of vegetables and pots and pans (b.y.o). And the Arnold Circus/Wink team with their Flip cameras will be asking people for their reactions and will put them online.
This is the start of the Spitalfields Music Festival and a partnership between them and the Friends of Arnold Circus to celebrate the bandstand’s 100th birthday.
Keep on going, because once you get to the bandstand, there’s even more music. You can hear the Bavarian Strollers and Mint Juleps (organised by Folklahoma) and dance to a ceilidh band. And for a finale – the Kitchen Orchestra with their musical cucumbers, graters and spoons.
Once in a hundred years, and unmissable!
10.30 – St Leonard’s Church, free performance of The Calling: new commission drawing on different religions’ calls to prayer.
