Update from T Loughman – 23rd June
The final phase of work is now underway. Re-planting of the flower beds has begun, greatly assisted by pupils from Virginia Primary School. The final fitting and painting of all the railings and the final repairs to the perimeter coping stones and steps are nearly complete and the only other major task remaining is the re-tiling of the bandstand roof. A delivery of specially made tiles to replace those damaged over the years is due later this week and these can then be mixed with the tiles salvaged from the original roof and placed in position.
All that will then remain are some small final tasks such as fitting new handrails to the railings beside each set of steps and completing the installation of the new irrigation system. Most of the site fencing will be gone before the annual Carrom Contest on 4th July and the site is scheduled to re-open to the public on 9th July.
